The new Isdefe-ULE chair in the ‘Horizon Network’ reinforces the Defense response to emergencies

Isdefe y la ULE acuerdan la creación de una nueva cátedra de la Red Horizontes.

The Horizon Network, an initiative promoted by the Ingeniería de Sistemas para la Defensa de España (Isdefe), will host a chair with the Universidad de León (ULE) to strengthen the area of Defense linked to emergencies. The involvement of the Leon academic institution will be linked to the ATLANTIS project, which will develop an emergency simulator to train the new drone unit of the Military Emergency Unit (UME).

Isdefe and the ULE expect to formalize this agreement in the coming weeks, which will make available to the Horizon Network fifty researchers. Their contribution will be linked to the design of weather prediction models for drone flight, remotely piloted systems for terrain reconnaissance capable of detecting fires and floods thanks to the use of lasers and cameras, as well as the use of data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize decision making.

The chair will also contemplate the trajectory planning of drones, the development of mechanical systems to lighten their weight thanks to 3D printing and the graphic modeling of virtual environments, among other tasks.

Thanks to Isdefe’s participation in the Horizons Network of Isdefe, the ULE will have workshops, talks by experts, workshops for companies and conferences to help strengthen its research work.

The Horizons Network, a great ally of the Spanish Public Administration

The agreement between Isdefe and the ULE will be under the umbrella of the Defense and Security Observatory of the Horizons Network, whose main objective is to detect future trends in their areas of action to train their staff and be able to respond quickly to the new challenges of the Spanish Public Administration.

To this end, the Horizons Network of Isdefe promotes technological, methodological and management analysis and foresight activities, thus contributing to the creation of a network of experts. The dissemination of knowledge and the attraction of talent, thanks to the seven universities that make up the network, feed the open innovation ecosystem.
