Spain needs to develop its own capabilities in space to guarantee sovereignty and technological independence, with key space solutions for secure communications, ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) and early warning.
Objective of FOSSA Systems
Enabling secure and resilient connectivity solutions for Europe’s Defense and Industry, offering direct-to-satellite communications (IoT, messaging, PTT) and support for low-power sensors. Its architecture is adaptable and supports multiple protocols. They seek strategic autonomy with 100% European design and manufacturing.
Capabilities:
FOSSA Systems has in-house space segment development (more than 20 satellites launched), proprietary ground stations and user segment capabilities, including communications bubbles and dual communications.
Core technology:
They have developed 100% in-house technology for remote asset management, optimizing costs through the use of COTS components and mass production. Their solutions are compatible and interoperable with existing IoT devices, and deployment is fast and agile. Innovation is continuous, with satellites designed for a lifetime of ~5 years.
Communications:
– IoT: Transmission of critical information from devices and sensors in the field, using Spread Spectrum technologies (LoRa/LR-FHSS) for longer range and lower power consumption. Both civil and military applications.
– Messaging and Voice: Creation of tactical communications bubbles for deployed units without line of sight, allowing the transmission of text messages, emails and voice/PTT calls.
– SIGINT (Signals Intelligence): Detection, identification and localization of electromagnetic signals using a constellation of nanosatellites with SDR, multiband and geolocation capabilities (TDOA, FDOA).
LEO satellite constellation:
They offer global coverage and direct connectivity, are multipurpose (secure communications and SIGINT) and guarantee sovereignty and control as they are 100% developed and operated in Spain.
LPWAN technologies:
Low power consumption, resistance to noise and interference, and asynchronous architecture.
Safety:
E2E AES-128 / AES-256 encryption and secure microcontroller (FIPS 140-3 Level 3).
