The European R&D project Technology, training and knowledge for Early-Warning / Early-Action led policing in fighting Organised Crime and Terrorism (COPKIT) is co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, grant agreement number 786687.
The European Union concentrated a large part of its research and innovation activities in the previous Framework Program called Horizon 2020 (H2020). In the 2014-2020 period and through the implementation of three pillars, it has contributed to address major societal challenges, promote industrial leadership in Europe and strengthen the excellence of its science base.
The Horizon 2020 Program has integrated for the first time all phases from knowledge generation to activities closer to the market: basic research, technology development, demonstration projects, pilot manufacturing lines, social innovation, technology transfer, proof of concept, standardization, support for pre-commercial public procurement, venture capital and guarantee system.
The R&D project COPKIT addresses the challenge of analyzing, preventing, investigating, and mitigating the use of new information and communication technologies by organized crime and terrorist groups. This is a key challenge for policymakers and the State Security Forces and Bodies due to the complexity of the phenomenon and the number of factors and actors involved. To address this challenge, COPKIT proposes the development of an early warning (EW) / early action (EA) system based on intelligence at both strategic and operational levels.
The Isdefe team participating in the project as consortium leader is coordinated by Raquel Pastor Pastor of the Defense Technologies Directorate.
