The Transport Obserbatory of the Horizons Network of Isdefe analyzes the latest advances in the sector for more efficient, safe and sustainable management. To this end, it conducts its activities through the Chair of Air Traffic Management.
Fernando Gómez Comendador, director of the Chair of Air Traffic Management with the ETSIAE of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), has analyzed for Isdefe the current state of this great node of knowledge.
First, he addressed two of his main lines of research: how to deal with the entry of new means of transport and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in air traffic management. Fernando Gómez Comendador has described both lines as “challenging” as they have to operate at three levels: the one occupied by commercial aviation, the lower one and the upper one. He also stressed the work of Isdefe, which is “very important as a support to the authority supervisor in Spain to ensure safety”.
Gómez Comendador also spoke about the work being done by the UPM for Horizons Network of Isdefe. EIn his words, their current roadmap is to “develop models to operate in a compatible way” within the field of urban air mobility. “The Horizons Network allows us to create synergies to advance these projects,” he concluded.
