The Isdefe Chair – Universidad de León (ULE) in the Application of Technologies in Emergency Situations (ATSE) is now a reality. The agreement was signed by the rector of the center, Nuria González, and the Secretary of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarce, on behalf of Isdefe, on February 28.
This new initiative will allow the development of an emergency simulator that will improve the capabilities of the UME Drone Unit (UDRUME) located at the Conde de Gazola Base, in the municipality of San Andrés del Rabanedo. The chair will also address, among other issues, the trajectory planning of drones, the design of mechanical systems to lighten their weight thanks to 3D printing and the graphic modeling of virtual environments.
The agreement between both entities will be extended over the next four years. The launch of this chair comes after learning of the participation of the ULE in the Atlantis project of the UME. Through this initiative, the center will make available to Isdefe’s Horizons Network fifty researchers led by the doctor in Aerospace Engineering, Diego Domínguez.
The event was attended by other Isdefe representatives, such as Isdefe’s Director of Innovation, Processes and Digital Transformation, Ildefonso Vera Gómez, and the company’s Director of Business Development, Jesús Alonso Martín.
“In a world where natural disasters and humanitarian crises are becoming more frequent and unpredictable, emerging technologies play a key role in preparedness, response and recovery,” said Alonso Martín. “Among them, simulation, robotics and the digital twin are transforming the way we deal with emergencies, allowing us to act with greater precision, speed and safety,” he concluded.
For his part, the colonel head director of the Atlantis Project Program Office of the Military Emergency Unit, Francisco Javier Moreno Miguel, recalled during the ceremony that the chair is “a milestone in emergency management” and will become a key tool for decision-making in these situations.
