Winner of the 2020 Isdefe’s IDEAS challenge (6th edition)
Internal R&D project
The main objective of Isdefe’s internal R&D project on Money Movement Tracking (SEMODI) is to research new methodologies for tracking the movement of money in order to prevent, prosecute and mitigate criminal acts derived from this movement, such as money laundering and terrorist financing.
This is based on the cross-referencing of financial information at international level (e.g. SWIFT messaging system) between financial institutions, national authorities, such as the various tax agencies (such as the AEAT) and national financial intelligence units (FIU) such as SEPBLAC in Spain, which will be used to draw up risk maps and identify suspicious transactions.
The project is being developed by a team coordinated by Raquel Pastor Pastor of Isdefe’s Defense and Security Technologies Department.
